Hawaiian Airports Part 1

This scenery features accurate recreations of the airports at PHMK Molokai, PHNY Lanai City, PHHN Hana, PHLU Kalaupapa, and JHM Mauai West. All runways, aprons, taxiways and buildings have been repositioned to their correct locations, and include custom textures based on real photographs. The new hanger has been added to Hana and also the new fire stations at Lanai and Molokai. The scenery features effects, sound, many animated objects including people, flags, animals, waves, cars, trucks and many more. Full night textures with light maps are included.

The scenery also includes representative, and real interisland traffic schedules, and the HAL ATR is sporting the new OHana livery.

All the scenery files have been sub-divided so they can be switched on or off according to user preference. It has been designed for, and tested in DX9 and FSXA only.

Please enjoy, and I hope you like my scenery as much as I enjoyed building it.

Hawaiian Airports Part 1.

-------------

INSTALLATION:

1. Just add the scenery to your FSX addon scenery and activate as normal.

2. Optional: copy contents of the airplanes folder to FSX \SimObjects \Airplanes folder.

	Please note: if you decide not to use the traffic schedules, please delete all the files at the bottom of the Hawaiian Airports scenery folder beginning with "traffic_XXXXXX"
	otherwise FSX will be looking for traffic aircraft in your airplanes folder.

3. Optional: copy contents of the effects folder to FSX \ffects folder.

4. Optional: copy contents of the sound folder to FSX \sound folder.

--------------------------------------------------------

UNINSTALLATION:
---------------

Uninstallation is a reversal of installation, just remove the files from FSX.

The scenery has been designed to be totally non intrusive and makes no changes to the registry.

--------------------------------------------------------

HIGHLIGHTS:
---------------

Each airport has been recreated from real world photos and accurately re-positioned to their correct locations. Hana is home to Maui Hang Gliders so I have included a traffic file which has the default trike doing touch-and-go's at 1000 1200 1400 and 1600. Lanai City includes the new apron extension and Fire Station. Kaulapapa airport features wave effects and more realistic landclass has been added, based on satellite imagery. Molokai Terminal has been remodelled and the tower includes a full 360 degree panoramic view. The somewhat stark FSX runways aprons and taxiways have been painted with a more "lived-in" texture. Many of the buildings have interiors with transparent windows and you can park your aircraft in the hangers.

FSX Settings:
----------------
Please note: AI traffic take a little while for the FSX engine to settle down, "touch-n-gos" will often go missed before they land. They must also refuel before taking off.

The scenery is best appreciated during daylight summer hours.

Ground shadows are best turned on, however you will notice a long shadow cast by a default autogen Hotel south of JHM. This is part of the FSX default scenery hard coding.

Crash detection has been turned off for grass and hangers so these airports can be used with FSX crash detection turned on.

Road traffic has been designed for 15%.

Texture resolution is recommended at 15cm.

If you are using the airports with photographic scenery, I would also recommend adding the following entries to your FSX.cfg. (Please make a backup copy first).

[TERRAIN]
LOD_RADIUS=7.500000
[GRAPHICS]
TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=4096
(please note any subsequent changes made to the scenery settings will cause FSX to reset these values to default).
[DISPLAY]
MIPBIAS=7

HOW TO SWITCH OFF SCENERY FILES.
--------------------------------

1. Browse to your main FSX folder.
2.	Open the scenery folder in FSX\Addon Scenery\Hawaiian Airports\scenery
3.	Rename the file you wish to switch off from filename.bgl to filename.bgl.off
4.	Restart FSX.
5.	Fsx will give a message to say it is rebuilding the database.
6.	Any objects, effects or textures attached to that file will no longer be visible.

-------------------------------------------------------

HINTS and TIPS:
---------------

1. I have included a tower view in this scenery from inside the topmost tower. Just switch your view to Nearest Tower. If you open the controls menu in FSX and scroll down to the very bottom you will see an entry called 'View Track/Pan (toggle)', insert a keyboard shortcut such as Ctrl+I. In FSX You will need to zoom in/out until the view is just right. Go to your cameras.cfg file, (PLEASE MAKE A BACKUP COPY !)scroll down until you see the nearest tower section. Change the xyzadjust from false to true. To speed up the pan mode, you can also add the following entries to the same section:-
	PitchPanRate=30
	HeadingPanRate=75
	PanAcceleratorTime=0
You will now be able to pan across the entire airport from inside the Tower. This is nice to use in replay mode to see yourself landing.

2. As I recently discovered, it is a good idea to make a backup copy of the main folders containing the fsx.cfg and scenery.cfg. A reinstallation of FSX will wipe these folders clean, so all your modifications are lost.

3. For scenery designers, I find it better to first texture any gmax objects before applying a boolean cut.

CREDITS and ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS:
-------------------------------------------------

My sincerest thanks and appreciation of incredible hours of hard work, commitment, and dedication goes

To: Oskari Syynimaa for his terrific ATRs and to Symon Long who very kindly gave me permission to use his terrific islandair repaints.

To: Chris Thompson who very kindly gave me permission to use his up-to-date and highly accurate Hawaiian traffic schedules.

To: Henry Tomkiewicz for his terrific AI aircraft and to all the highly talented repainters at AI Aardvark a special word of thanks. The awful ATR hawaiian airlines and ohana repaints are my own.

To: The very talented Dee Waldron for his dash7, which adds a touch of nostalgia to the scenery.

To: Reallusion Iclone who very kindly gave me permission to use their fabulous 3d people. I just repainted them for a Hawaiian context.

To Jim Dhaenens for his high quality spot and apron lighting. These models really transform the night lighting of an airport. The small blue taxi lights are my own first attempt, I hope you like them.

Please note: These files are copyright of the original authors and may not be redistributed without their consent. I take absolutely no credit for the work of these gifted designers, I have merely adapted their work to my scenery.

To Luis Sa for his terrific SBuilderX which provides the tools to compile landclass and accurate airport placement for FSX.

To Arno Gerretsen who wrote the superb MCX which inlcudes the easy to use ground poly wizard.

To Bill Womack, OZX, FSDeveloper and the hundreds of other contributors to gmax tutorials without whose invaluable help I would not have been able to get my head around GMAX.

To the extremely talented team at FS Flight Planner who provide a marvellous utility for adding real aircraft traffic to FSX.

And if I have forgotten anybody, please accept my sincerest apologies.

Please enjoy, and as usual If you have any comments, suggestions or words of encouragement,I would love to hear from you.
